Code of Supervisionary Practice
Information about the nomination, appointment, and role of supervisors is contained in Macquarie University's Code of Supervisionary Practice (http://www.ro.mq.edu.au/HDRU/forms_thesis/CodeSupervsoryPrac.pdf). Please note that this code is currently under review.
The code of supervisionary practice can also be accessed via MUPRA's web site www.mq.edu.au/mupra/. This site also contains useful advice on troubleshooting, grievance procedure and related matters.
SCMP Supervision Grievance Procedure
The following steps should be followed in cases of supervision grievances:
1) The student attempts to resolve grievance with the staff member concerned within a reasonable timeframe (not more than two weeks).
2) If the grievance is still unresolved, the student should bring the grievance to the departmental Postgraduate Convenor and the matter be resolved within the department.
3) If the grievance cannot be resolved intra-departmentally, the student may elect to bring the grievance before the Divisional Higher Degree Research Support Committee. The Committee will liaise with the student and the Department to resolve the grievance.
4) A student may elect to by-pass stages 2) and 3) and take the grievance direct to the Head of Division (or other responsible officer nominated by the College) failing a satisfactory resolution at stage 1). The HOD or nominee will attempt to resolve the grievance informally.
5) If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved after the above steps are taken, the student should refer the grievance to the Dean of Higher Degree Research, Prof. John Hooper.
