“To be able to be caught up into the world of thought--that is being educated.”
Edith Hamilton, historian and educator.
NEO has grown out of a desire by the Division of Society, Culture, Media & Philosophy to encourage Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates to participate in conferences with their peers and publish articles. Linked to the annual Higher Degree Research Conference (Link), NEO is a peer-reviewed journal that follows a rigorous refereeing process.
The conference was first run in 2007 with several purposes in mind. These included to:
- encourage honours students to go on to further study
- provide current research candidates with a platform to share their research findings as well as meet and expand their research networks, and
- to promote excellence in standards of higher degree research generally.
The conference is open to HDR candidates and Honours students from around the world who are currently working in any of the fields within the broad areas of the Humanities and the Social Sciences.
