1 General
NEO: A Journal for Higher Degree Research Candidates in the Social Sciences and Humanities is peer-reviewed and published annually.
Journal articles should not exceed 6,000 words.
Articles are to be submitted electronically as a word document attachment. Images should be sent as separate files as either GIF or JPG. Do not embed images into word documents. Please send the word document to the issue editor as appointed in the relevant year or to scmp-hdradmin@scmp.mq.edu.au
All submissions should be clearly labeled with the title of the article, the contributor's name, the name of their university, the name of their department or faculty, their email and surface mail addresses and their fax number. All submissions must also show the contributor's student number and the name and contact details of their supervisor.
2 Style guidelines:
- General rule - keep it simple, avoid formatting. This means: Use single spacing between lines, justify on left only.
- Do not use tabs at any time. Mark paragraph breaks with one extra "hard return".
- Do not use bold or underlining at any time: for emphasis or titles, use italics
- Wherever possible, avoid the use of footnotes or endnotes. Cited works are referenced in the text, eg. (Simpson, 2000: 32). Include in the main text any material you may otherwise have footnoted.
- Spelling - retain 's' (and not 'z')
- Short quotes - Inverted commas - " (not ')
- Emphasising terms within the text or a quote within a quote – single inverted commas – ' (not ")
- Extended quotations - indent in plain text (not italics) any quote of over about 60 words or 5 lines.
