Application Closing date for the 2007 round of the MQRFS- - 5 pm, Wednesday 5th July, 2006

The Research Office closing date for the 2007 round of the MQRFS (Macquarie University Research Fellowships Scheme) is Friday 7th July. The following internal deadline has been set for submission of applications to the Dean's office for signature:

Close of business (5pm) Wednesday 5th July.

Applications should be submitted to Lisa Taituma PA to the Dean in W6A 703.




Media Department Lunchtime Seminar June 7th

"The Pacific Film Archive at UC Berkeley - Its mission and Intersection with Visual Culture on the Pacific Rim", presented by Kevin Consey, Director of The UC Berkeley Art Museum And Pacific Rim Film Archive, University of California, Berkeley. Kevin Consey leads a university art museum and film archive at UC Berkeley that consists of approximately 15,000 works of art and 11,000 35 and 16mm films. The collection is international, with particular concentrations in East Asian, Modern and Contemporary, Baroque and later European works of art. The Film Archive specializes in Japanese, Russian, Eastern European, Chinese, Indian and North American experimental films.

This seminar is presented in association with the Biennale of Sydney.

A light lunch will be provided

Is anthropology a joke?
Grant McCall (UNSW)

Perceptions of what an anthropologist is impact on our student enrolments, how we are treated by our universities and in the general regard that society has for us.

I will survey those attitudes using fiction, from literature to movies to cartoons, to see what truths might be found there that might be of use to us as a profession.

Participants might be shocked and affronted by some of those images; and they may want to bring along some of their own.

Baby News - Congratulation to Ashley

The baby (Tolga) arrived at 1.15 am on Saturday, 24th June

Baby weighed in at 3 kg 76 gr and was 52 cm long.

Flowers (+ balloon & teddy) were sent to Ashley on behalf of all of SCMP to congratulate her on the safe arrival of her son Tolga.
