SCMP Ethics Committee Representatives
New Representatives:The former Representative, Dr Kirsten Bell (formerly from Anthropology) has recently been replaced by Dr Willa McDonald (Media) and Dr Mianna Lotz (Philosophy) who will be sharing the position for the next 3-year term.
As you will be aware, the role of the Divisional Representatives is to review SCMP applications for Ethics Approval prior to their submission to the Ethics Review Committee, and to advise researchers of any issues that are likely to arise in the Ethics Review process. This process is designed to address any such issues in advance and thereby expedite the review process so that research can commence.
Deadlines: Please take note of the dates below, paying particular attention to the Ethics Rep closing dates. These are the dates by which our representatives need to have received your draft application, so as to be able to review it and provide feedback in advance of the monthly Ethics Committee Meetings deadlines.
These deadlines are important as the time frame allows the Ethics Reps just one week to review, advise on, and sign off on your applications, before the Reps' deadline for submission of applications to the Committee itself. Please refer to the Research Office website for more information about the processes and time-lines for each month's Ethics Review Committee (Human Subjects) meeting.
Submission to SCMP Reps:Your draft application can be given to either Willa or Mianna, via email or in hard copy form in their pigeonholes. Wherever possible both of them will consider and discuss your application, before contacting you with any suggestions.
A note to Heads of Department:Please feel free to contact Willa and Mianna to arrange for them to attend meetings with you or our Department as a whole, if you think that that would be beneficial. They are keen to be 'in the know' as to any general issues and concerns likely to arise for your researchers as they undertake the Ethics Review process.
